when Benny left my sister andi had to work the door alone for the most part. it was finally decided that Harold was going to be the club manager. mostly only because he had been a part of the family longest. that was fine as long as he didn't get in the way of us doing our job to the best of our ability. as long as he stayed out of our way basically. it's not that he was a bad person. he just didn't know how to get things done quickly when things were in a bind. at times it seemed he was a little too nice and slow for what the job required. don't get me wrong, we were not complete assholes...usually. but if you came in drunk looking for a fight, you were going back out the door with all the attitude you had just walked in with. It is also a very fine line between being nice and polite. when you have a hundred people lined up either one of those will go out the window at the drop of a hat so that things can get done quickly and correctly. at times like that, there was no playing around, no jokes, just passing bills and pushing people through. hard and fast.

while we were running short staffed we were hitting up all the regulars to be a replacement for our staff shortage. some of them stepped in during bar rush but just to help out for a few minutes. every once in awhile someone from one of the other club would also step in. in general most people are smart enough to know that it is not as fun to work in a club as it is to just go when you want. still we kept trying. sure they would get in free, as well as one guest a night, and get to see all of there friends but we expected them to work their ass off as much as we were. eventually this kid Chris agreed to give it a shot. the first night was always a trial run because a lot of people just could not take it. either it was more work than they expected or there was more aggressiveness than they expected or a hundredd other things. at the end of the night it turned out Chris worked out. not our first choice but good enough. there was also the fact that he was not actually old enough to be working there but no one ever asked so no one ever knew. silly laws about kids working until 5-6am. judging by his chemical intake, he was more than comfortable on the wrong side of the law.

due to several factors, our customer count kept going up. Ed was one of the best dj's in town and we were getting people in the door when it counted with a minimum level of bullshit. it was at this point that we started asking for another person. we were bringing the money in at a consistant rate so we were finally given approval. since imbecilemikeyMikey had started coming in regularly and was usually around the door, he was the first and last canidate. he pretty much started the minute he was asked. and things were never the same from there. with this crew lined up and ready to roll things really started cranking and boy did we pay for it.

because of the numbers Ed's spinning and our work were bringing in, the club owner started pulling all the tricks out of the bag to make him more money and also to try to limit the number of people that actually came in. our numbers were getting so high we were excessively violating fire code, so they had to do some thing. originally it was five or six bucks to get in. over time that went up to $10. There was also a re-entry fee charged all of a sudden. previously you could come and go at will as long as you still had your hand stamp on. none of this did any good for limiting the number of people that came in. made a hell of a lot of money and then some. there had been pat downs while Benny was working but now they became more thorough. i always fely uncomfortable doing this but it was part of the job. nevermind the few times i almost got popped because people didn't want them done. 'here's your money back, have a good night.' that always seemed to change their attitudes pretty quickly. Oklahoma summers are hot but even with the ac going full blast you would sweat just from all the bodies packed into this dive. during all of this we normally let Harold run the snack bar because he could be as nice and slow as he wanted there and we could all sit around and talk about stuff. the few times he was up front was because someone didn't feel like dealing with the bullshit that night. usually it was me. as far as i can remember Mikey and Chris never touched the register.
