so much work to do
time to kill and fill
everything has to be perfect
for that very first dance
in the dark
that 4am scream
is so much better
than midnight tears
clutched hands
not ready to let go
i never planned that far
but you never get to pick
how or who or why
guide and direct
as life moves along
that is the best you get
each day like a year
not wanting to wait
each year like a day
passing too quick
sitting and waiting
for the wait to be over
and a new life to begin
