empallinwhats wrong with...
the beauty of little girls butterflies and puddles of water.
many moons ago there was a series of poems based around the above items and the varied degrees of beauty of said items. well yes they are all beautiful things. little kids and nature are dime a dozen beauties. they are the easy pulls in a world full of these things. even at its ugliest nature is still packed with beauty. kids have that permanent sense of awe and wonder about such and the whole of the world around them that it is hard to ignore the beauty of them. adults are a much harder thing to find beauty in.
one of the most beautiful things i ever saw was a group of grown men of varied ages races and everything else staring at a butterfly. one night in the warehouse about 2-3am we had this large (approx 8" wing span) pale green butterfly go through the building. sure sure nature at work again. but the beautiful part was the way this warehouse full of grown men came to damn near a complete silence as each person noticed and stopped working to watch it. it was like a scene from a movie the way you could tell its part just buy the lack of noise. no one bothered it. everyone gave it a wide birth. each man had that sense of wonder and awe and probably more in most cases that they had no other choice then to stop and stare. and the feeling stayed in the air for several hours without much talk about it. it was a beautiful and odd species but the reaction it caused was more so.
its things like where words really begin to fail to even begin to do justice. pictures could never even begin to capture it. you were either there or you missed it. with little girls and butterflies it is something we have all seen more times than we can count. its like roses its more a matter of how much attention you give it not if you notice it or not. there really is beauty in everything if you look hard enough but it easy to not have to look. problem is too many people do not take the time to consider what is beautiful and instead rely on things that they are trained to think of as beautiful. or things like art that they seem to think is only meant to be beautiful. or they turn it into some fucked sexual idea. or they just shrug their shoulders give an eh and go on. or they think a thing is a thing of beauty because to think it is not is some kind of weird sin or something.
so yeah like i used to say in high school...sometimes you have to stop and smell the trees. eh wtf do i know anyway.
