yes. yes i was always like this.
friday brought me some computer disaster of my own. what most people call disasters i call annoyances but this one was disaster. i was plugging the phoneline back into the modem but the plug was out of line. i wasnt surprised since the modem is kind of duct taped into place (long story. lets not go there). i figure ill just open the case and maybe have to retape and it will be done.
i open the case and had a huge fit of OMFGWTF's. it seems that most of the risers that keep my motherboard attached to the case had some how broken. broken.in.half. so for the most part the motherboard was just hanging there. deep breath. hold it. let it out.
so i leave it sitting in the floor in pieces while i go in search of some. first place i head is compusa. they dont carry them. they suggest best buy or circuit city. i take an educated guess and say that circuit city will not have them. best buy is a maybe so i go take a look. i get a no there as well but i ask who they think might have them. they suggest pc club which happens to be right across the street.
i drive over there (which i felt really ridiculous doing. i always feel that way driving to a place i can clearly see without my glasses on.) and ask them if they have them. well as it turned out they dont sell them but they gave me some anyway. so now comes the really painful part.
working on my system is a bitch and a half because it is a full tower but that is its one major fault. workinig with motherboards is risk as all hell because they are what you might call 'not cheap'. and it is because of that risk that i asked for and got so much (and much appreciated) help from
allism and her husband. but they live in colorado so they cant just dart over to help with this one. that leaves it all up to me. so after many rounds of nervous cursing i get it all in place finally get every thing plugged back in cross my fingers and plug it in. wish wish wish. power button. 'choose operating system.' yeah i can do the happy dance. i did it all on my own.
i am not bragging here its that i hate asking for help when it comes to computer problems. some people will say that i am good with computers but they dont understand why this is not a good thing. i will sit in front of a problem computer for hours on end stopping only to get a fresh diet coke go pee and smoke. and if i can do those with out stopping i will. the smoke breaks though have helped me solve a problem or two. fresh eyes see the bigger picture etc. but yeah i will put off stupid things like sleeping and eating to fix a problem. obsess much. yes. yes i do.
