so i caught the end of ghosts of mississippi this morning and figured i would watch it. i had seen most of this movie the other day but got distracted before reaching the end of it. not a bad movie but i really wonder how acute it told the story of civil rights activist medgar evers and his untimely passing at the hands of a racist fuckwad. so because of this movie the allin machine started rolling full steam ahead. at one point the was a john f kennedy quote (those who do nothing are inviting shame as well as violence. those who act boldly are recognizing right as well as reality.) that i was not familar with. so i did a search for it. while reading the text of the entire spech i got another idea.
so off i went looking for information on the black panter party. i was actually looking for something specific. in the movie panther they make reference to a picture taken of huey p newton after he was supposed beaten by police while handcuffed to a hospital bed. the article that accompanied the picture was not of much interest so that set me off on another topic.
in one of the black panter party pages it mentioned something about centurion ministries. centurion ministries assists people who they believe have been wrongly convicted. it is probably on of the sadest sites i have read in a while. the worst part of it is where they list the two cases that ended in executions. i really wish they would go into deeper details on this cases rather than the quick blurbs they provide.
you know you really can't do any kind of research on the black panther party without coming across numerous references to cointelpro and the mess of abuses to civil liberties. not to mention several deaths and injuries. it was interesting to seee that somebody else thinks that the patriot act opens the door for a return of this kind of behaviour from the us intelligence agencies.
while go over all of that i came across some references to the 1968 democratic national convention in chicago. i was not really aware of this. i knew that the chicago 8 trial was because of something to do with this but had never really looked into it. while on this i was lead to information on the weathermen. and that is where i quit. they dont teach this stuff in most schools and i really feel i learned more today than i did some days at school. a lot of days.
as helpfull as the web as been with all of this i really think i need to find a few good books to read. all of this from watching television. ill be damned.

our general manager is chief crazy horse
huey newton 'cause he was extra hard
he's the one who would be playin at the shootin' guard

and he'd throw it to the outlet
nat turner 'cause he can turn the corner when
he's out there
he be flyin through the air throwin passes like
he really doesn't care behind the back
and in between the legs
he's handlin the rock as gently as an egg
he's throwin it in to angela davis's neighborhood
she's postin up down in the extra hard wood
she grabs the pill and then she puts her shoulder down
