we could sneak one in
steal some old ideas
from a muddied past
fill this room with fire
feeling our way around
smokey corners
every plan for escape
bites at the issue
every passing thought
is a dirty prayer
by an angel
covered in soot
who tried to save a soul
from pain
with pain
trying to put her love to bed
as burning timbers fall

so we avoid the light
that could be escape
