so i have been sorting through my mp3 trying to get rid of ones i dont really need and ones that are corrupted as well as fix file names and mp3 tags. fun stuff when we are talking thousands of files. 18000 give or take if you must know. i am taking it folder by folder and letting them play through until its all pretty.
one of the first things i did was load up the folder that contained my they might be giants files. not too shabby. those get enough play that most of the tags are clean at least. so thats 500 plus that are basically done.
of those 500 there are supringly few repeats. i am not counting different live version and such as duplicates. but then there is stuff from the free downloads and dial-a-song stuff. and the mono puff(in) stuff is there because it is related. please note out on cd i own it so bite me mmkay? shit i even own some stuff that was record only so far. //gloat
while listening to those while i worked on the next folder one of their venue songs came on that i had to stop and listen to several times to make sure i was hearing what i was hearing.
for those not familiar with these...on the 2004 tour in support of the album the spine they wrote a song for each venue they played at. they then collected them and made them available as one of many live downloadable cds available for purchase on their website. then gave it away free for a short period of time with the purchase of another downloadable album. thus it comes into my life.
the particular track was for the meridian in houston texas. words words words.noise noise noise. it just playing in the back ground with me not really paying attention to it. then !!click!! WTF!?! repeated several times in the song is the line "i'm sleeping in the astrodome." oh shit. this could turn out bad, yeah it was recorded over a year ago but people will forget that fact and only hear the words.
i think i might want to remind them of this so they can put a waring of sorts on the file. or something.
as i mentioned in that mess i was listeing to that as i started working on the next folder. the next folder i picked was a series of cds belonging
mama2jude and her bad ass husband. and there were quite a few of them. they have some pretty good taste in music just wish i had more similar tastes. that part is a little joke that so very few are actually going to get.
so the songs are playing along just fine because they were nicely encoded using gracenote (aka cddb) and unscratched cds. all nice and smooth. no crappy tagged corrupted cheese ball downloads here. thats why i picked this folder. i figured it it wouldnt be any problem at all.
famous last words you say? yep. winamp started hitting files from the rhino cd just can't get enough: new wave hits of the 80s vol 12

i had just installed an extension for firefox that scolls what is playing in the status bar at the bottom of the brower window. this way i dont have to switch back and fourth to moniter this little project. i can even control it from there if i want a track repeated. or to end quickly. neat little thing it is. (yeah thats a neat little thing to. unfortunately.)
i was working on things (neopets is working? yeah. right.) when i happen to look down at the scroll because i didt actually recognize the song. however the track being scolled was one that i do know. crap. crap. crap.
at that point the playlist got cut back to just that cd. after all this kind of stuff is one of the main reasons i am doing this. before being realligned i had getting the tracks listed as below. it is just so wrong.
01 culture club - karma chameleon

i did get the tags fixed once i found the correct track list but i still have to fix the file names. i dont know what caused the error but i do know it sucks. maybe there were two versions of it released. or maybe since most track listings in the gracenote database are user submitted someone thought it would be funny to submit the wrong information. or they were just on crack. either way they deserve to get smacked around for a few hours.
the line can begin to form behind me.
while working on this one of the things i have been doing is raiding the amazon free music downloads. just because it makes so much damn since. and thankfully i have not come upon a single liquid audio file yet. this is good because they too suck.
while pillaging (pillage then burn? sounds like a plan to me) alternative rock > general i came across a trak by philip glass. ok maybe it belongs there if they dont have any better place to put it. even though they do have an easy listening area. it doesnt make much since but maybe they meant to do it. i almost had myself convinced that it folled some kind of weird logic like that.
so i kept poking along at it. i have dial-up here. there is nothing other than poking. not to mention my system is in the process of downloading sp2. very slow we go. then in that same area i hit a track by lynyrd skynyrd. hahahahahahahaha. ok they really fucked it up.
ocassionally while these files have been downloading i have been taking a look at some of the other areas.
Alternative Rock > goth & industrial spit out some amusing stuff as well. the main one being that the four most popular are by the band collide. if you say so. personally i am think along the lines of payola here.
another one of the songs that played and caught my attention was a cover of rock island line as performed by x. in their version they change a few things up and one of those thing ends up turning into a mention of the band the rhythm pigs.
so i got curious as about a band as old and realitively unknown as the rhythm pigs having an official sit. and wouldnt you know that they do. and it has mp3s of full songs on it. and they are about to squeeze out a new album. the files listed below are the songs available on the site. but there is a catch. the three covers at the bottom are streaming only. on the site. i have linked straight to the real files to make it easier on everyone. youre welcome. (right click to save - frin windows users. i dont know how you do it on a mac)
melissa
soulshine
whiskey woman
(additional information concerning above track)
moving way to fast
tired Of paying
folsom prison blues (johnny cash cover)
illustrated man (johnny winter cover)
redhouse (jimi hendrix cover)
and you can even enjoy them without anyone passing out. ok another joke noone is going to get.
mikey has been trying to convince me that we should get a group of people together to go see the voodoo music fest in new orleans. after all you can still buy tickets ( or at least you could when i started working on this). i just dont think it is going to happen. he seems to think it will. at least so he says.
now for a some none music related stuff...
if any one knows of a really good/quick/easy to use dvd ripper please let me know.
if anyone knows of a good/quick/easy utility that will convert .mov files to .mpeg and/or .avi let me know that too.
if you are on a high speed connection and have not downloaded batman: dead end then you should go do it now.
mellay and
dmsalem00 need to really take special note here. its an eight minute short that is more worth your money than a lot of movies. but its free.
for the record my system really did not like running photoshop, premire, and winamp while doing that damn windows update. but it still did it. just veeeerrrrrry slowly. i think that is some kind of benchmark for me. i knew there was a reason why i keep saying i need another system.
there is this crazy couple that live across the street. about a month ago i went out for a cigarette around 3am-ish. i was just in this to see the action. for whatever reason she had locked him out of the house and they are screaming back and forth through the door. and she is screaming load enough that i can hear her. finally he gives up on getting back in and goes to get in his car. on the way to the car he starts screaming and i am quoting here "fuck you in your pussy!" fuck you in your pussy?!! the best he could come up with was fuck you in your pussy? i dont even think that qualifies as an insult. maybe they are just weird like. either way it is damn funny.
on another note about the neighborhood. there sure a lot of people around here that really like rainbows. i mean i think they are pretty and all but not enough to deserve a flag on the house or several stickers on the car. but each to there own.
also i have to remember to watch the movie stonewall sometime. i let you know how it stands up as a history lesson.
this is one that is mostly a note to myself but i thought others might be interested. i mean it is a good game and all
flatout for the ps2 cheat codes
GIVEALL - unlocks everything
GIVECASH - lots of cash
Ragdoll - use the gear up button to launch the ragdoll
stay tuned - big news is coming down the pipe. big big.
this sentence is here just because i didnt think this post was quite long enough.
