i have what you might call a brown thumb but decided i would give it a shot at a bastasd garden and to my surprise some of it is actually growing. i say bastard garden because of the way it has been put together. and if i get anything out of it great. if not oh well. i may provide updates (maybe even pictures) as things change but here is where it is now.

beans (swiped from the kitchen) - growing the best
potatos (stolen from kitchen) - growing second best
tomatos (stolen from kitchen) - no sign of life
carrots ($.10 for seed packet from dollar tree) - plated too soon to see life
cucumbers ($.10 for seed packet from dollar tree) - not yet plated
garlic (swiped from great-uncle) - transplant...so-so
peach tree (swiped from great-uncle) - transplant...not so good
pine tree seeedling (given away by park service at fair last year) - well its not dead yet.
bulbs of unknow kind (transplanted from public easement) - not so good
silver bells and cockleshells (none to be found) = no results to report
subtotal=$.20
small box of miracle grow = $2.50ish
total = $2.70ish

a group of us are going to see the violent femmes tomorrow (wed) night at the uco feild house. this is a whole weird thing for me since i really dont like being around large groups of people and i dont care for what amounts to big shows. i was weened on club shows and for many years i had never been to a "real" rock concert. true i saw the flaming lips, soul asylum, the meat puppets and "bob" know who else and how many times in the halls on the ou campus but those were all pretty casual setting. they were also nowhere near full capacity. i dont think i have ever paid money for this type of concert. a lot of the ones that i went to were because the tickets were there. so here is a full run down of the big concerts or the ones i can remember at least. this is nowhere near a full rundown of all the bands i have seen but that is not the point either. i will try to keep them in order but time slips things up.

1] tracy chapman at the okc zoo amphitheatre. my dad bought my sister these tickets for her birthday and i went along as a guardian of sorts. not that i was complaining. as an added note i ended up meeting her when i worked at the hotel.

2] monkees and various others at the oklahoma state fair. this was with both of my sisters and i believe it was because it was something we all could agree on.

3] monkees and weird al yankovic at the oklahoma fairgrounds ballpark. more tickets my father bought. i have no idea on this one.

4] primus and others at the wbcn river rave. primus were staying at the hotel and had given the tickets to one of the other bellmen. no one else could go so i got them. although i was suppose to go on tickets that were promised to me by a member of echo and the bunnymen.

5] ben folds and ben kweller again on the ou campus but at the lloyd noble center and on tickets mikey won from a local radio staion. in all the time i have been in oklahoma and all the events that have taken place there thaat turned out to be my first time to go inside.

and i think that is it. not all that impressive i know but thats the facts. tomorrow the femmes get added to the list but as the first paid tickets for one that i really wanted to go to. then i will be caught up since both of my sisters have already seen them.

but wait their is more fun. one of the places selling tickets is size records in oklahoma city. thats not where my ticket came from or else i might have known this sooner. you see on friday i was reading the oklahoma gazette which is our alternative weekly and i come across this little blurb headlined "paint this". and for those too lazy to follow the link it says...

Oklahoma City native and acclaimed artist Winston Smith will be present at a book signing for his latest work, “All Riot on the Western Front,” at 7 p.m. Friday at Chindogu Gallery, located inside Size Records at 8915 N. Western. The show/signing is free and open to the public, and the show will remain on display through May 31.

it was at that point my head fucking exploded. holy. shit. what. the. fuck. oklahoma native? why the fuck didnt i know this?

most of you are just going 'yeah so what' but at least one of you will have a similar reaction (that would be you sir). to explain winston smith has done most of the artwork for alternative tentacles including designing the logos for the label and for the dead kennedys. he as been involved with them longer than some of you have been alive. and for a long time he was the only known in house artist for a-t. eventually john yates came along and took over some of the work but winston was always there.

speaking of mr yates i have to remember to send him an email and ask him if he is still in contact with amy baron. i gotta find that girl just to know she is alive.

also if someone with a paid account could please set up a syn feed for winston smiths blog i would appreciate it mucho nacho. go to this page and enter
http://www.tblog.com/rss.php?bid=winstonsmith
and then come back and tell me its done. or not.

concerning the people above who i have mentioned meeting while working at the hotel 1] i can understad your doubts but believe what you like b] you know the movie fours rooms? that was pretty close since i did the overnights. and thats a whole other world.

there was other stuff i was going to say but i am a moron and it has since escaped me. oh well maybe next time.
