The Chronicle of Crime : The Infamous Felons of Modern History and Their Hideous Crimes - Martin Fido
this is a very large collection of newspaper clippings dating from 1800 to basically the present. it is a good way to see how historical events were reported at the time and not the way history books have presented the facts. it is also interesting to see how the reporting has and hasn't changed. there are also some stories that reference others from years or decades previous. there are some summaries of events and the like that are presented amounst the clippings. my favourite has to be the break of the gangs of new york. yeah, like the movie but so not. this makes a better coffee table or bathroom book than one to just sit down to read. not to mention it is the same basic size and weight as most re/search books so that too would hamper a long sit with it. just as a note this review applies to the paperback version and not the hardcover as pictured.
Where the Bodies Are: Final Visits to the Rich, Famous, & Interesting - Patricia Brooks
a nice book to follow up the previous one with since some of the same people are mentioned in both books. consider it a tour guide of sorts. not as thurough as it could be but still pretty good for the sort. illinios gets several pages devoted to the chicago are alone. possibly more than the boston are does which does not seem right at all. then on top of that will rogers is the only listing from oklahoma. seems a little unfair. there is also too much space given to elvis's supposed final resting place. all the nit-picking aside it is a nice guidebook for possible tour destinations. it is even devided into regions to make it "easier" to find the location you may be headed towards.
for the record i do not own either of these but would like to.
