ok so here is the rough run down of the past week or so.
friday the 20th we headed for Wichita, KS for the Big O Con. after a few stops around town (bbv, wally world, arby's) we finally got on the road. we were running late but not terribly so. still it sucked. once we hit the highway it was tnakfully very uneventful. and i kept the radio up so i didn't do too much thinking.
the mapblast directions we had were not the best in the world but they worked well enough to get us to the hotel. once we got there Pandy said a few hello's and introductions and then we went up to dump our stuff and clean up. we were a little rushed because she had a single practice session for her part in the Clue shadow cast. going up. going down. i figured i would tag along to take pictures and be entertained since i basically knew no one. or so i thought.
as they were getting everyone into place i was just milling about. then they started looking for scripts so i went into my bag for the copy we had. as i was doing this i got asked if i could stand in for a bit since the person who was suppose to play Col Mustard had not yet show. pandy and i had discussed this and she knew i had some anger about this stuff. when i was doing rock i was never an official part of the cast but acted every week because someone always bailed. so i always did it on short notice and never got credit for it. so the words that came out of my mouth this time were the ones that i was thinking. "sure why the fuck not. it's what i'm used too." had it not been a different group my words would have been much more harsh. so i was just a stand in for a part from a movie that i had not seen in years. no big deal.
since it was out doors and there was not a copy of the movie around things got pretty nutso. and for not knowing me it was nice that they were open enough to liten to some of my suggestions. it was turning out to be a nice group. then people started to break off to get sleep and what not. we continued to practice a litlle more before the bomb was dropped. i was asked if i wanted the part for the real thing. 10 am right? no problem. hung over? no problem? what if the douche set for the part shows up and expects to do it? still mine? in that case, no problem. yeah, i am a little bitter. pandy had a complete costume due to her work and the work of my mother. all i had was...a tux i just happened to bring. talk about prepared.
so with that we headed back to the hotel to go our separate directions. on the walk back we were all crossing on green and there were a couple of people who were trying to get us to hurry across because a car was coming. then one of them yells that they don't really want the entire clue cast run over in shot. they should have been so lucky. once across and still in one piece pandy and i went over to Papa John's to get some much needed food and drinks. then back to the room for a clothing change for the evenings party. mostly laid back except trying to convince everyone that we would not be playing naked Twister. then eventually we made it up to the room for what little sleep could be had in preparation for the next days festivities. ugh. sleep sounds good now too so of with your heads.
