Jun. 25th, 2008 05:12 amok yeah i like watching antiques roadshow. partly to learn. partly because i grew up with a lot of this type of stuff being passed around. its nice to know some of has a real world value. on a lot of it i can guess the values on them before they are shown even if i dont know what exactly they are. but something is wrong.
first is the values given. in most cases the stated value will never be achived because no one wants to pay that much for it. because in a lot of cases they can get it for cheaper somewhere else. and when they say it will get so much at aution. try telling them it can only be done at certain auction houses which may include having to ship it overseas for max profit.
the thing that really kills me is when they are told a value and say they had no idea. bullshit! you wouldnt have taken it as one of your two allowed items if you had no idea. now go back to prcticing the face ya putz. i must say the time the let a holy shit through editing was a believable no idea reaction. yes they bleeped it but it was still there.*
i wanted to get tickets this year but with no luck. i so wanted to screw with them. first i have some pieces i picked up at mass art that are all unsigned. yeah they may have value but most are faulty incomplete pieces. and then i have unused roadshow tickets and a silly unused collectors book they released several years ago. but then i have a few things that i know would actually have value that i had thought maybe i should take insted. but feh i didnt get them this year.
*this is like watching cops when they say i didnt do any thing or why are you chasing me. its said so often and never once believable that you could make a drinking game out of it.
