for those of you that follow this sort of thing in the past weekish oklahoma has been hit by a number of tornados. omf"b"! not that! oh do i seem cynical? i have been asked too many times how i/you/people can live in a place that has tornandos. same way others can live in a place with blizzards/earthquakes/hurricanes/landslides/dessert/blahdeblahblah. everywhere has different fights with nature and we all place our bets where we feel most comfortable. some that hits with little or no warning but doesnt usually take out entire cities (towns yes) in one shot seems like the best best to me. anyway strange things are afoot at the circle k...

the first storm of note came up on radar some 5ish miles away. (23rd and council/maccarthur-ish) for those who dont get it this storm was spotted on radar but not on the ground but combine those two factors and i start paying real close attention. since as a rule they travel to the north east that put my location right about [insert multitarded math] bee line for normal path. and the fact that it can go from radar spotted to cow flinging in seconds. as it happened the the storm took a more nne direction thus passing us by a good 5ish miles. so unfortunately for you i am still here. bastids. all i saw was marblew sized hail. feh!

the only reported damage from that storm was the loss of a roof at burger shack. i never saw pictures but that could mean a teo foot patch or the whole thing. when i first heard it i said something about how it should have been wendys or mcdonalds or whatever would sound less bass ackwards on national news. then i thought about that for a little bit and still wished it had been one of those but for different reasoning

the new and improved reason is that those chains can afford to be closed for repairs and can expense the repairs until insurance pays up. thus they can be back in business in a day or two. buger shack on the other hand might not have the insurance or back cash to get it fixed so an event like this could possibly lead to its closing. do not be mistaken i have never eaten there not do i ever intend to but its because of places like that that we still have at least a shroud of an american dream.

another one of the storms hit pitcher, ok. maybe you saw the film on it currently running on independent lens. picher is in far ne oklahoma (north of miami*) and is part of the tar creek superfund site. that is currently the largest superfund site in the country. i was thinking i was going to do a film on picher but then found there were several in the works so i backed off but after watching the one that actually got finished i have sense come to believe i should still do it because too many questions were not even asked musch less answered.

you can do your own research on it if you so choose but basically picher became a town from the digging of holes they planned to bury it it. the epa has been doing buyouts trying to get everyone out so they could wipe it off the map. but small town people get attached to the where they live and arent much for change. so even with the epa coming in and saying the high lead and zinc levels suggest you really need to leave there are still people in the area. a lot of them. then a tornado comes through and tries to clean up the straglers. so now the epa is back in town to 'check the lead and zinc levels in the air.'

i suspect these levels are going to be elevated and inflated so they can force the removal of those left. the fact that they started testing so soon after the storm while yes crap was still in the air and machines are tearing downs what left of structures. government efficiency at it most timely. publicly the epa is making all kinds of statements about safety and such but i would be willing to bet that more than one person on that side is doing a happy dance to end all happy dunces.

all of this leads me to a question i have been wandering that applies to peoples in other areas of the country that have never lived in this general area...have you ever lived in a house with a storm cellar in the yard or do you even know what one is?

*this one and the one in florida are named after the same tribe of indians but oddly enough this one actually has the correct pronunciation.
