empallinbecause i dont do "-style" i have been second hand shopping for a dining room set. i found a beautiful table at the auction for $15. even has an insert. very 50s to the nth degree. chrome legs aluminium sides grey and grey rounded square top. now i just have to find chairs to match. and that is what i am looking for. there are a couple of designs originating at the bauhaus scool that i am looking hoping to find. it could happen but in numbers of four or six slim my chances. ill post pictures whan i get it all together.
anyway i was there tonight and ended up coming home with a box of brownies. 14 of them. you do realize i am talking cameras here no? one has a flash one has a case that actually goes with a different one of the cameras. there is a set of twins and a set of pentuplets. a variety of ages and styles. a nice friendly reminder that i so love art deco. with one exception they are all in seemingly working order. the broken is fixable but by someone better than i. they are all dirty but i am only going to clean the externals on the bakelite ones. oh and i lie one is not a brownie it is a agfa. so i figure i got a damn good deal and will end up selling off most of them.* and at a dollar each it was hard nay impossible for me to pass.
i also got a handful of precode comic books for a dollar each. like i said i dont do style. at one point someone said that i was the king of retro (i think this was actually said by salem0X). though i appreciate the tone of that i dont like retro. i like things for there styles and looks not because its cool or fits with this or that. sure its nice if it fits but it has to fit me first. the table the cameras and the comic books are all from different decades but they all still fit. do you really think a ps2 and atari 2600 go with those things? i most certianly do. though i think the ps2 goes better. really i think i hate the term retro just because it is so over used and not always properly. and damn 90's retro does not exist yet. fuckers.
*i collect films (do i really need something else around here that is 8mm? ive got 8mm and super 8 film, 8 hi8 and dv8 videotape but all i want is 5 minutes with a 9mm) and projectors not cameras (though i have a fairly large collection of broken ones that used in the past. living with me is hard for them to handle) and i already have the brass ring of brownies for my purposes. the one i have and will most certianly be keeping is the one that belong to my grandmother. the fact that i also have the box for it and negitives to some of the pictures taken with it just make it that much nicer.
the main reason i will be selling this and other items is so that i might either get my current two part broken camers fixed of possibly get a new one. something has to happen because i really dont like using the vidcam as a cam. it is a risk to all parts involved and its is really bad in bad light conditions. and pixel squares. and it just makes the pictures look like...well just look....
