empallinwhen fizzgig disappeared more than a year ago i had this idea. it seems that i am not going to do anything with it so i figured i would share it and maybe someone else will or maybe its already in place. while spending hours driving around looking for him i was thinking there had to be an easier way.
have a group of hunters that are on call to use their dogs to track the lost animal. you would have a central number that people would call and from there someone would go down the list of people available to see who is ready and willing right then and there. it could be done on either a donation basis or charging anywhere from $20 an hour to $50 an outing with 75% of the money going to the person(s) with the dogs. the care of the dogs would be the primary expense to any party involved. it would have to be a low level not for profit to keep costs down. you could do it for profit but it would have to be your dogs and then you would be responsible for training hiring and a host of other things. the advantage to doing this serves all. people would have a more likely chance of getting their animals back and it would be aditional training for the tracking dogs. it would have to made clear that the cost would be paid up front and still due if the trail ends at the end of the driveway or where ever the animal was picked up from if stolen. also applies if found deceased. the person with the dog would have the ability/right to write off all of there portion if they so choose but not charge any more than set amount. by that same token they would be able to accept tips. they addtional 25% would go mostly to office supplies and phone line and minimal promotion.
