Mar. 15th, 2007 03:02 amamerica the beautiful - the national parks and federal recreational lands annual pass
the access pass is the replacement for the golden access passport as of january 2007. the [free] pass is for citizens or permanent residents of the united states, regardless of age, who have been medically determined to have a permanent disability. it provides [free] access to, and use of, any federal recreation site that charges an entrance or standard amenity fee and provides a discount on some expanded amenity fees. the pass must be obtained in person.
please see the link for full details and you can find nearby parks on the national parks service website. you will want to call ahead and find out if that park has them but as a rule if they have a visitor center vistors center they do. in talking to several people about these they are available from some participating facilities other than the nps. and i have also been told some 3rd party camping facilities (ie koa) honor them for a reduced rates. however i have not checked these little tid-bits. still it is a vey excellent deal for those who qualify (and their families)
